Steve Metras founded Victory Lifts in 1999 after years of working for commercial elevator companies. Steve’s experience in the accessibility industry and his dedication to hard work were what motivated him to create Victory Lifts.
“I was laid off for the first time ever,” Steve said.
After consistently working since the age of 14, Steve combined his work ethic with his experience and founded Victory Lifts.
“It was the right fit,” Steve said.
Victory Lifts started from Steve’s basement, and has grown tremendously since. In 2006, Steve & Victory Lifts received a Fast Track 50 award, which recognizes fast growing businesses. What began in a home basement eventually expanded to a 28,000 square foot facility that continues to satisfy residential, commercial and church accessibility needs.
Steve’s smile widens when hearing from customers. “I do get a lot of enjoyment [hearing] someone say ‘I can stay home now,” Steve said.
Steve also is happy knowing that family members of Victory Lifts customers are satisfied. “[They] are relieved that it’s so inexpensive to get them up and down the stairs, and keep them home,” Steve said.
Preceding Victory Lifts, Steve graduated with a bachelor’s in Economics and Finance. Steve also worked for Midstate Elevator, Dover Elevator and ThyssenKrupp Elevator.
Additionally, Steve is a member of the Accessibility Manufacturer Association (AMA), National Association of Elevator Contractors, Home Builders Association and serves as chairman of the board for City of Syracuse’s Elevator Safety Board.
Steve is very involved in his community, and has been a youth basketball and youth soccer coach as well as a life guard and life guard instructor. Steve has been very involved in the Boy Scouts throughout his life, serving as a Tiger Cub Coach and volunteering as the Boy Scout District Commissioner.
Steve’s hobbies include golf, motorcycles and swimming.
